An updated antivirus is a must, and you
cannot avoid this. There are many interesting options of this kind.
I
would suggest you McAfee Viruscan and Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Pro, rather than Norton
Antivirus or other antivirus software less known.
Norton is very good, but in last versions it appears to be
quite heavy for the system.
Kaspersky is excellent and gives a very good virus protection (anyway, it
appears to slow down the system just like Norton Antivirus). It is sold
in two version, but the cheaper version cannot be compared with the Pro
(much better protection).
The
antivirus test of October 2004
(based on a database of about 10000 virus) returned very interesting
results, both in virus detecting and in scan speed.
