When you surf on internet, you are exposed
to viruses, to attacks of hackers,
theft of personal identity, passwords or credit
card info and more etc. For protecting your pc (and your
privacy), you should use a personal firewall (plus a good antivirus, of
course!). There are to good personal firewalls: Norton Internet Security 2003-$30 upgrade Rebate!
(that includes Norton AntiVirus, Norton Personal Firewall, and Norton
Privacy Control) and BlackICE PC Protection . Both
automatically detect and block attacks through a comprehensive
inspection of all inbound and outbound information to your computer. They constantly work to secure your dial-up, DSL,
and cable modem from hackers 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
If you asked
me to choose a firewall between the two... I would say I have a little
preference for BlackICE. Anyway... Norton Internet Security has a
great value for money, since it is an all-in-one, and Norton Antivirus
integrates fine with Norton Personal Firewall.
There are
other personal firewalls of great value: Zone Alarm Pro,
Outpost Firewall and the great Look'n'Stop (probably the
best, but even the most difficult to configure). About Zone Alarm, you
can even download a free version, but it is not very effective and I
cannot suggest it to you (spend some money and stay protected).
