What they do |
| These
are cameras that are completely digital. |

|
Quality to consider before purchasing one |
1) Number of pixels (expressed as megapixels) not interpolated. The
greater this number the greater the quality. 3 megapixels are the
minimum to obtain decent results. If you can get anything greater
than this, the better (of course do not even consider it when you
read interpolated).
2) Quality of the lens. It is important to have good quality ones.
You can have cameras with changeable lens (which can give you better
quality) as it is for traditional cameras. Otherwise you can have
cameras provided with an optic zoom or digital zoom (the latter is
similar to having interpolated pixels, so it is best avoided). It is
also a good idea to have a macro function (or similar) so that you
can easily take pictures of small objects and details (such as
flowers).
3)Colour display. This allows you to see immediately the picture
that you have taken (therefore it is better to purchase only a
camera that include it).
4)Memory. This is needed to store the pictures. Having a lot of
memory allows you to takes more pictures before you download them on
your pc and wepe the memory clean again. 128 MB are a reasonable
size.
5) Dimensions. One of the great things about this cameras, is that
they are very light (unless you buy a professional one) and can
always be carried with you so that you can take pictures whenever
you want, even in the most unexpected moments.
6) Batteries. If you can, try and get lithium batteries. They are a
bit more expensive, but they can recharged many more times.

The cost of a digital camera varies a lot according to its
characteristics (such as numebr of pixels). It can vary from 100
Euros to over 400 USD. |
